Description:

The IIC (Intern, GIS, Interpretation) internship offers unique opportunities for college students, high school students (ages 16-18), and recent graduates to gain practical experience in both GIS and public lands interpretation within the context of national park management. As an IIC Intern, the individual will contribute to projects involving the analysis, mapping, and visualization of spatial data, supporting the conservation and management of natural and cultural resources. Additionally, a significant component of this role involves directly engaging with the public at visitor services, providing information and fostering a deeper understanding of the national park. This paid internship provides valuable skills in GIS software, data management, spatial analysis techniques, and public outreach.

Responsibilites:

GIS and Data Management:

  • Assist in the collection, processing, and management of spatial data from various sources (e.g., GPS, remote sensing, databases).
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of geospatial databases.
  • Develop maps and other visual representations of spatial data using GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS, QGIS).
  • Perform spatial analysis tasks to support project objectives, such as habitat mapping, resource assessment, or recreational planning.
  • Assist in the development of GIS workflows and documentation.
  • Collaborate with IIC staff and partner agency personnel on GIS-related projects.
  • Potentially participate in fieldwork activities for spatial data collection.
  • Prepare and present findings and project outcomes through maps, reports, or presentations.

Qualifications:

  • GEOG 2800 and UAV experience
